Common Questions

  • Why are we doing a building project now?

Walk through Calvary on a Sunday and you’ll see it—every corner is active, every room is in use, and we’re running out of space. But this isn’t just about being full—it’s about being faithful. God has given us a growing church, a full and capable staff, and passionate leaders. Let’s seize this moment. It’s time to move forward and make room for more lives to be changed.

  • How are we going to pay for this?

We’re stepping out in faith with a church-wide campaign. Every one of us will be invited to pray and consider a three-year financial pledge. Many of our leaders and long-time members will lead the way with early commitments. Once we know what’s been pledged, we’ll explore financing options to bridge the gap. This is a team effort—let’s build together.

  • How will we stay focused on ministry -- not just construction?

Let’s be real—this will take energy and focus. But buildings don’t build disciples. We’re committing to keep our mission front and center. The Elder Board is praying through a fall ministry focus that will fuel discipleship even while we build. The goal isn’t just a bigger building—it’s a stronger church.

  • How will a new building help the community?

We’ve always opened our doors to our community—from recovery groups to local trainings. This project helps us do that even better. But more than that, it gives us a reason to talk to our neighbors about Jesus. This campaign isn’t just about bricks—it’s about the Gospel. Let’s use it to start conversations and share the hope we’ve found in Christ.

  • How will construction affect our Sunday Services?

We’re hopeful to continue to worship on Sunday while construction happens during the week, but we are thinking about options where we may need to worship off-site for a season. One option on the table is partnering with WHA school. Nothing is decided yet, but we’ll keep the church updated every step of the way. We’ll keep worshipping—we just might do it somewhere new for a little while!

  • Have we considered church planting or going multi-site?

Yes! Planting churches is in our DNA—we helped launch Lighthouse EFC in Hackensack back in 2003. But after prayerful consideration, the Elder Board believes our next faithful step is to expand right here. This project positions us to strengthen our ministry before we consider multiplying again.

  • Will the new sanctuary allow us to have just one service?

We actually plan to stay multi-service on purpose—not just out of necessity. Why? Because multiple services give more people more chances to connect. Smaller gatherings help build deeper relationships and allow us to offer more options to our growing community.

  • When will construction start?

If all goes as planned with the Grow Campaign, we’re aiming to break ground in spring 2026. Let’s pray toward that goal together.

  • What will happen to the Faith House and Hope House?

Right now, the plan keeps both houses in place. The Faith House may serve as temporary office space during construction. Down the road, either building might be used for parking or additional ministry space. For now, we’re holding them with open hands.

  • What if I can’t fulfill my pledge?

Life happens. We get that. If your financial situation changes, just let Chris Cox know. Your pledge isn’t a contract—it’s a faith-filled commitment based on what you believe God is leading you to do.
